the shattered forest

The Shattered Forest is a narrative game where players accompany the fairy Lyr on a quest to uncover the cause of their home forest’s destruction by solving narrative and spatial puzzles.

Because this is a narrative game I choose to make a linear path for the player to traverse. This sketch was made for the tutorial level.

I aimed for comprehensive level design sketch with walking paths, categorized areas (like basic control tutorials and first memory locations), interactive elements, and representative images.

The map consists of the starting valley, the pillar path, the moon-shaped island, the temple entrance, and the temple inside. After I finished the sketch, I received the individual models and arranged everything in Unity.

The logo design embodies the game's essence, featuring two pillars representing ancient Greece and a central element symbolizing a vase, echoing a tholos theme.

I began by selecting fonts, starting with an interesting "Y" and pairing it with simple "L" and "R". After adjusting shapes, the design evolved from only letters into a graphical logo.

The painting illustrates the theme of a mysterious enchanted forest. For the final version I chose to make a simple background for the UI that enhances the game’s theme.

I went for a relatively mirrored composition to make room in the middle to place things such as the Logo.

For the menus, I used elements similar to the leaves in the painting to decorate and integrate the UI with the background, without distracting from the text and the interactive elements.

This is the Introducing Cutscene of the game. I was in charge of animating the static illustrations done by Kseniia Shepel.
